My name is Roseanne Burke, and I am a painter. I’ve always loved to draw and paint and had my first “one w

oman” show at our local library when I was 11 years old. I continued to take classes in college, studying with noted realist painter Jerome Witkin and colorist Laurie Zagon.

Since moving to Nevada City in 2002, I have taken drawing and painting classes at Sierra College with Phil Brown and John Michael Keating. I’ve also attended plein air workshops in Venice, Italy with Palo Alto painter Lesley Rich. The experience of painting on location every day and the necessity of painting quickly (before the light changes too much) completely changed my approach and technique. Although I still do most of my painting in my studio, I continue to paint en plein air in Nevada City and can often be seen in town, painting the local landmarks.

I am a resident artist at ASIf Studios in Grass Valley, a member of Oil Painters of America, and my work is available through Julie Baker Fine Art in Nevada City.
